i am finally back in spore. not that i am celebrating or something. but after a long and exhausting 10 days trip to egypt and dubai. only one word can describe the experience- ENRICHING. it was a long trip to Alexandria, Egypt in total. it was so super super tiring to go there. 3 hours to colombo. transit another hour. then 4 hours to dubai. transit another 4 hours in dubai international airport. then another 4 hours to alexandria. we were dead beat by the time we reached there. but the view of city of alexandria was so awesome. it was facing the meditterenean sea. further down we'll be able to see Greece and Italy. we went to catacombs, Pompay Pillar, Roman Amphitheatre, Montaza palace and library of Alexandria which was the second largest library in the world after the library in Washington, USA. then we took another 4 hours bus journey. to cairo. we went to the egyptian museum. where there was a total of 140 000 artifacts. it was huge and packed with people there. there was full of children in school trips. it was so funny. because we ended up taking loads of pictures with them. they barely see asian there. i guess. we went to the royal mummies room. it was so freaky. i was imagining that the mummy will suddenly open their eyes and attacked us or something. it was so so so so freaky. i have to say that they've done quite a good job mummifying these pharoahs and the queens. they look pretty full. i mean they had been mummified for at least 2500 years. all before Christ. we saw the mummy of ramses II and the entire collection of treasures of Tutankhamun. practically anything that he owned and was buried with him was made of gold. well those kings really know how to live life at that time. we went to citadel to see the mohammed ali mosque. it was a beautiful and magnificent mosque. so captivating. there the tour guide briefly explained the five pillars of the muslim religion. it made me realise how much these terrorist groups had contorted the face of islam. i couldnt help it but felt angry and unjustified that there was still such people living on the face of this earth. later on that we went to luxor. i would say that luxor is the most beautiful city out of all the 3 cities that we visited. it was the ancient capital of egypt. no high rise building there. just old ruins. the next morning our schedule was so packed. we had to visit the colossi of memnon, valleys of the kings. see the ancient karnak and luxor temple. but my favourite historical figure was queen Hatshepsut. we went to see her temple there. build it the middle of the valley. the only queen who had ruled egypt without her husband. its just beautiful. we also took a horse carriage along the river nile. during sunset. it was soooo soothing the feeling. i never wanted to leave the place. we went back to cairo. and it was jammed with traffic again as usual. they called cairo the great capital because of its overpopulation, rich history, whole loads of reasons why. later on we went to see one of the seven wonders of the modern world and the only one that had survived and was part of the seven wonders in the ancient world , the pyramid and sphinx. it was not as big as what i imagined it to be. but nevertheless breathtaking. standing next to it. you'll look like a puny compared to the big pyramid. at night, went on a cruise along the river nile, where we were entertained by egyptian belly dancing and their fantastic local cuisine. to my upmost horror i was pushed to dance infront of the crowd by the dancer. it was sooo embarrasing. i would have paid a million dollar to get me out of the situation, not that i have one anyway. we ended the trip by going to the local bazaar. Khan El khalli bazaar. it was a so full of things. whole loads of things. you had to bargain at least 90% off. crazee rite. especially if you were a tourist. well my over all impression of egypt was good. it is a poor country. with 85% of the population living under the line of poverty (earning less than us$1200 per year). the cities are all brown. dont ask me why. their buildings barely have any colour. lousy traffic laws. but great people. something you will get to see different live on the other side of the world. and your heart just ache for them. to see those children begging on the streets and some doing hard labour on such a tender age. but the trip will not be so enjoyable without our mr mido. i love our tour guide. i announce him to be the best tour guide in the whole world. who was never tired of our endless questions and always telling the truth and even the bad and evil side of the country. no kind of propaganda here. and of course our semi-psychotic driver.. sammy-sammy. we miss u both so much. this trip to egypt has re-enforce my dream and wish to open an orphanage. there is still much to be done this world. and yes pris i will never forget our promise. ok im so tired of typing rite now. i will write about dubai next time. there's not much to write anyway. im just glad to be back.
